Children’s National Hospital
Children’s National Hospital is the largest provider of pediatric care in the District of Columbia and serves as the regional referral center for specialty care. Children’s National has more than 360,000 visits each year by patients who come from throughout the city, region, nation and world.
This is the main training site for our residency program and where you will complete all your emergency medicine and pediatric critical care rotations as well as the majority of your inpatient care months. Rest assured that at this tertiary care site, you will see it all!

Holy Cross Hospital
This is a community teaching hospital in Silver Spring, MD, where residents are exposed to well nursery care during their first year, learning the basics of newborn care, and also dedicated time to attending newborn deliveries. Holy Cross Hospital is the largest delivery hospital in Maryland. It is located just north of Washington, D.C., and is accessible by Metro.
George Washington University Hospital
This is a large academic hospital in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Residents rotate through the NICU and attend deliveries here. It is an advanced facility equipped to treat premature and term newborns, including those who require noninvasive nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), mechanical ventilation, high frequency oscillation and nitric oxide inhalation therapy. It is located near downtown D.C. and is accessible by Metro and shuttle.
Children’s National Specialty Care Locations
These locations are spread throughout the D.C. metropolitan region, offering subspecialty care to those who live near and far. While residents spend most of their time on the main campus, they have the opportunities during many rotations to work in these facilities.
Children’s National Primary Care Practices and Private Primary Care Practices
These locations are spread throughout D.C. metropolitan region, serving as medical homes for patients as well as our residents’ continuity clinics. These sites vary a bit in terms of patient population, and each site has a lot to offer. New interns are matched with continuity sites based on location and interest prior to beginning residency.
