Children born with congenital heart disease (CHD) or who need surgery in their first year may have problems with development or learning. To monitor this cognitive growth in children born with CHD, Children's National Hospital established the Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome (CANDO) Program – the only program of its kind in the Washington, D.C., metro region.
